The 13th Tokyo Dialogue of the “Central Asia plus Japan” initiative was held today, focusing on the theme “Geographical Outlook for Central Asia.” Organized by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Global Forum of Japan, and the Japan Forum on International Relations, the event brought together government officials and experts from Japan and five Central Asian countries—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
In his opening remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Hisashi Matsumoto highlighted Central Asia’s growing importance in diplomacy, economic security, and business opportunities for Japanese companies amid global uncertainties. He expressed hope that the Dialogue would further strengthen Japan’s relationship with the region.
Participants discussed Central Asia’s geopolitical landscape, including relations with neighboring countries and prospects for regional cooperation. Japanese representatives shared insights on the region’s strategic significance and potential for collaboration. The Dialogue concluded with a deepened mutual understanding and exploration of future cooperation areas, reinforcing Japan’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with Central Asia.
