The Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now located in the Azabudai Hills complex in Tokyo’s Minato Ward, has seen a significant increase in visitors since its move in April. The new exhibition space, housed on the fifth floor of Mori JP Tower, Japan’s tallest building, showcases diplomatic documents from the Edo period onwards.
Key exhibits include materials related to Chiune Sugihara, who issued life-saving visas to Jewish refugees during WWII, and Shigeru Yoshida, a former prime minister. The upgraded facility, 1.5 times larger than the previous one, now displays 66 items, including Yoshida’s personal belongings.
Since reopening, the archive has welcomed 4,032 visitors—double the previous year’s total. The new space is wheelchair-accessible, open on Saturdays, and admission is free.
