Japan Drops to Fourth Place in Asia Power Rankings

Japan has fallen to fourth place in the 2024 Asia Power Index, overtaken by India for the first time in the survey’s history, according to a report released by Australia’s Lowy Institute. This shift reflects Tokyo’s economic decline and changing power dynamics in the region.

The index evaluates 27 countries and territories based on various factors, including economic strength, defense capabilities, and diplomatic influence. While the United States remains the dominant power, it faces increasing military pressure from China. Notably, despite military gains, China’s overall influence has stagnated.

This analysis underscores the evolving landscape of power in Asia and the challenges Japan faces in maintaining its influence.
