by editor

Japan commemorates the 70th anniversary of its Official Development Assistance (ODA) program, which began in 1954. Over the decades, Japan has extended its support to 190 countries and regions, contributing to their economic and social development.

The ODA initiative started alongside postwar reparations to Asian nations, aiming to rebuild trust and foster international cooperation. Today, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) administers various programs, including financial aid and technical cooperation.

Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa emphasized the importance of ODA in strengthening ties with friendly nations, particularly amid global challenges. As Japan adapts its ODA strategy to focus on national interests and private funding, it aims to enhance partnerships with developing countries while addressing pressing global issues.
