Foreign Minister Iwaya Hosts Welcome Reception for Participants of the 64th Nikkei and Japanese Abroad Convention

Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Iwaya Takeshi, hosted yesterday a welcome reception at the Iikura Guest House for over 170 participants of the 64th Convention of Nikkei and Japanese Abroad. The event, organized by the Association of Nikkei & Japanese Abroad and supported by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together overseas Japanese and their descendants from around the world.

In his opening address, Minister Iwaya expressed his delight at welcoming the global Nikkei community, recognizing their resilience and contributions in various fields both in their adopted countries and globally. He emphasized the importance of learning from the achievements of the Nikkei, who have fostered connections between Japan and other nations, and expressed his hope for greater cooperation in addressing the world’s growing divisions.

Dr. Ines Yamanouchi Mallari, President of the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Rengokai and Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku, spoke on behalf of the Nikkei attendees. She thanked Minister Iwaya for hosting the reception and praised the event as a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties between the Nikkei community and Japan. She also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in promoting Nikkei activities, which aim to enhance their role in their respective societies.

The reception concluded with informal conversations between Minister Iwaya and the participants, fostering deeper exchanges in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
