The European Union is set to launch its annual “EU Comes to Your School” project across Japan on October 30-31, 2024. This year’s initiative will see 34 diplomats, including 14 ambassadors, from the EU Delegation and Member State missions in Japan, visiting 37 schools nationwide.
In a show of solidarity with areas affected by the New Year’s Day Noto Peninsula Earthquake, eight diplomats, led by EU Ambassador Jean-Eric Paquet, will specifically travel to schools in these regions. This gesture aims to convey the EU’s ongoing support for reconstruction efforts.
The project, which began in 2007, offers Japanese students a unique opportunity to interact directly with European diplomats. It aims to deepen understanding of Europe, its history, and the EU’s current role on the global stage. This year’s program is expected to reach over 11,000 students.
Since its inception, the initiative has visited more than 1,100 schools across all 47 Japanese prefectures, engaging with approximately 490,000 students. The project has become one of the most successful outreach programs for the EU Delegation, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Japan this year.
“EU Comes to Your School” continues to play a crucial role in fostering people-to-people exchanges and broadening Japanese youth’s knowledge of the wider world and the diverse cultures of EU Member States.
