Senior government officials from Japan, the Philippines, and the United States met in Manila on October 25 for an informal Trilateral Discussion focused on countering economic coercion and promoting economic resilience.
The meeting, co-chaired by Ms. Corazon Halili-Dichosa, Executive Director of the Industry Department Services at the Philippine Board of Investments, brought together key representatives from the three nations. The U.S. delegation was led by Jonathan Fritz, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, while Japan’s team was headed by Mochizuki Chihiro, Director for Economic Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This discussion stems from the Joint Vision Statement issued during the first Japan-US-Philippines Summit in April, aiming to strengthen coordination in addressing economic challenges and building resilience.
During the talks, participants expressed shared concerns over economic coercion and reaffirmed their commitment to building economic resilience. The three countries agreed to collaborate on raising international awareness about these issues and enhancing their collective ability to respond to potential economic threats.
This trilateral meeting underscores the growing importance of economic security in international relations and highlights the commitment of Japan, the Philippines, and the United States to fostering a resilient economic partnership in the face of global challenges.
