Sri Lanka Showcases IT Potential at ASOCIO Summit in Tokyo

by editor

A delegation from Sri Lanka’s Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) recently showcased the country’s IT potential at the ASOCIO Digital Summit held in Tokyo. The event, which included the ASOCIO Award Ceremony, highlighted the achievements of several Sri Lankan companies that received ASOCIO DX 2024 Awards, recognizing excellence in various technology and digital transformation categories. This recognition underscores the capabilities and competitive edge of Sri Lanka’s IT sector.

Ambassador Rodney Perera met with the delegation, expressing optimism about aligning Sri Lanka’s IT industry with Japan’s strategic digital initiatives, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and software development. He emphasized that this recognition presents a significant opportunity for Sri Lanka to enhance its presence in Asia’s digital economy.

Discussions during the summit focused on expanding opportunities for Sri Lankan IT professionals in Japan, particularly in IT-BPM/BPO sectors. Delegates stressed the importance of remote work solutions and the need for Sri Lanka to retain its talented workforce amidst global competition for skilled personnel. They also sought avenues for Sri Lankan professionals to contribute to Japan’s tech industry, benefiting both economies.

The delegation included notable figures such as Dr. Dayan Rajapakse, Senior Vice Chairman of FITIS, and Dr. Kithsiri Manchanayake, Founder of AMIS College and Vice President of ASOCIO. Following their meetings with embassy officials, the delegation engaged with the Sri Lanka Professionals Association in Japan (SLPAJ), which aims to support skilled Sri Lankan IT professionals entering the Japanese job market.

The SLPAJ highlighted Japan’s aging population and increasing demand for digital services, which has resulted in a shortage of skilled IT personnel. This creates a unique opportunity for Sri Lankan professionals to make significant contributions to Japan’s tech landscape.
