The 40th ASEAN-Japan Forum took place yesterday in Karuizawa, Japan, marking four decades of annual dialogue since its establishment in 1977. Co-chaired by Japan’s Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Hiroyuki Namazu and Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Albert Chua, the forum brought together representatives from ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, and Timor-Leste as an observer.
Discussions focused on advancing cooperation under the Vision and Implementation Plan outlined at the 2023 ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 50 years of friendship and collaboration. Participants also exchanged views on regional and international issues, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening ties and addressing shared challenges.
The forum highlighted the enduring partnership between Japan and ASEAN, emphasizing continued collaboration for peace and prosperity in the region.
