Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, Akihisa Nagashima, received yesterday a delegation of Asian American youth invited to Japan under the Kakehashi Project, part of Japan’s Friendship Ties Programs. The courtesy call, which lasted approximately 25 minutes, was organized in cooperation with the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS).
Special Advisor Nagashima welcomed the group and emphasized the importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance as the cornerstone for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and the international community. He highlighted the close partnership between Prime Minister Ishiba and President Trump, reaffirmed during their summit meeting in February.
Special Advisor Nagashima expressed his hope that the visit would deepen the group’s understanding of Japan and contribute to further strengthening Japan-U.S. relations. The youth delegation expressed gratitude for the invitation and engaged in a discussion with Special Advisor Nagashima on topics such as advice for younger generations, nuclear disarmament, and artificial intelligence.
The Kakehashi Project aims to increase interest in and understanding of Japan among young leaders in North America, promoting awareness of Japan’s politics, economy, society, culture, history, and foreign policy. APAICS, established in 1994, works to promote the political empowerment of Asian Pacific Americans through various programs, including congressional internships and staff training.
