State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hisayuki Fujii received yesterday a courtesy call from H.E. Thomás Antonio Guardia Williamson, Advisor to the Vice Chancellor of Panama, in Tokyo. The meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes and focused on strengthening bilateral and international cooperation.
State Minister Fujii welcomed Panama’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (2025-2026) and expressed Japan’s desire to enhance collaboration, particularly in ensuring the safe and stable operation of the Panama Canal. Ambassador Guardia emphasized the shared values between the two countries and their alignment on key global issues, expressing Panama’s commitment to deepening cooperation in international forums, including the UN Security Council.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional security, including North Korea, the importance of maintaining a rules-based international order, and Japan’s vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). They agreed to work closely together on these issues, underscoring the strong partnership between Japan and Panama.
