A recent opinion poll commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveals overwhelmingly positive views of Japan across the United States, Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Conducted from October 2024 to January 2025, the survey highlights Japan’s growing influence and reliability as a global partner.
In the United States, 78% of the general population and 96% of opinion leaders view U.S.-Japan relations as “friendly,” with Japan ranking as the most important Asian partner for the U.S. Support for the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty remains strong, with 74% of the general population and 81% of leaders advocating its maintenance. Japan is also seen as a top contributor to the U.S. economy, leading in trade, investment, and job creation.
In Europe (France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, UK), 71% of respondents describe their country’s relationship with Japan as friendly, and 74% view Japan as reliable. Additionally, 80% value Japan’s role as a peace-loving nation, while 71% recognize its importance in global economic stability. Japan ranks second, after the U.S., as a preferred non-European partner for strengthening cooperation.
In Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), 88% of respondents see their country’s relationship with Japan as friendly, and 86% consider Japan reliable. Furthermore, 81% value Japan’s peace-loving stance, and 75% acknowledge its role in global economic growth. Japan ranks fourth as a future partner, behind Russia, China, and Turkey.
In the Middle East (Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE), 78% describe relations with Japan as friendly, and 75% view Japan as reliable. Additionally, 81% appreciate Japan’s peace-loving path, and 79% recognize its economic contributions. A significant 84% believe Japan’s economic and technical cooperation benefits the region’s development.
The poll underscores Japan’s growing diplomatic, economic, and security influence worldwide, with strong support for its role in promoting global stability and cooperation.
