The 6th Japan-EU Cyber Dialogue was held today in Tokyo, marking a significant step in enhancing cybersecurity collaboration between Japan and the European Union. The Japanese delegation was led by Yukio Saita, Ambassador in charge of Cyber Policy and Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA). The EU delegation was headed by Maciej Stadejek, Deputy Managing Director for Peace, Security and Defence at the European External Action Service.
The dialogue included participation from various Japanese agencies, such as the Cabinet Secretariat, National Police Agency (NPA), Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Ministry of Defense (MOD), and JPCERT/CC. On the EU side, officials from the European External Action Service, European Commission, and the Delegation of the European Union to Japan were involved.
During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on critical topics including cybersecurity strategies and policies, challenges in the cyber domain, bilateral and multilateral cooperation—including efforts within the UN—and capacity building assistance. Both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to continue working closely together in the cyber domain, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue to address emerging cybersecurity threats effectively.
