Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi met with Ambassador Tareq Al Banai, Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiation on Security Council Reform (IGN), during his visit to Japan. Hayashi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to UN Security Council reform, emphasizing the G4 nations’ (Japan, Brazil, Germany, and India) efforts in driving change. Ambassador Al Banai expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and pledged further cooperation on global issues.
Marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, both sides agreed on the urgency of progress in Security Council reform and also exchanged views on the international situation, including the Middle East.
