Japan and Ireland Strengthen Ties at St. Patrick’s Day Reception in Tokyo

Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Hisashi Matsumoto, attended yesterday the St. Patrick’s Day Reception in Tokyo, delivering remarks on behalf of the Japanese government. The event was also attended by Hildegarde Naughton, Irish Minister of State with responsibility for Disability.

In his speech, Vice-Minister Matsumoto highlighted the strong partnership between Japan and Ireland, rooted in shared fundamental values. He noted the significant progress in bilateral relations following Irish Prime Minister Martin’s visit to Japan and the issuance of a joint statement by both leaders. Matsumoto also emphasized the importance of 2025 for Japan-Ireland ties, citing the completion of the Ireland Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai and the opening of “Ireland House” in Tokyo as key milestones.

Vice-Minister Matsumoto expressed Japan’s commitment to further deepening and developing relations with Ireland across various fields, including economic cooperation.
