Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held a summit meeting today with Hilda C. Heine, President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), who is visiting Japan. The meeting, which lasted approximately 40 minutes, highlighted the deep historical bond and shared values between the two nations.
Prime Minister Ishiba welcomed President Heine’s third visit to Japan since her inauguration and emphasized the strong “kizuna” (bond of trust) between the two countries. President Heine expressed appreciation for Japan’s efforts to enhance relations and reiterated her commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
The leaders discussed various initiatives, including Japan’s support for the reconstruction of Amata Kabua International Airport Terminal and contributions to the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) to address climate change and disaster resilience. Prime Minister Ishiba also explained Japan’s plans for the safe discharge of ALPS treated water, emphasizing transparency and scientific evidence.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of youth exchange programs, such as JENESYS, to deepen ties and build friendly relations for future generations. President Heine also expressed her intention to participate in Expo 2025 Osaka and GREEN×EXPO 2027.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to addressing common challenges and fostering a strong partnership.
