Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya met yesterday with Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg in Tokyo. The two signed a grant aid agreement for 2024, providing Mongolia with equipment to monitor air pollution and manage sewerage systems.
Iwaya highlighted the importance of Japan and Mongolia as “special strategic partners for peace and prosperity,” while Battsetseg reaffirmed Mongolia’s commitment to deepening ties with Japan, a key “third neighbor.”
The ministers also discussed the upcoming visit of Japan’s Emperor and Empress to Mongolia in July, pledging to ensure its success. They reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation, including security, economic partnerships, and support for Mongolia’s “One Billion Tree” campaign. Additionally, the ministers discussed global issues such as North Korea and Ukraine and Iwaya reiterated Japan’s request for Mongolia’s support on the abductions issue.
The meeting underscored the strong and growing relationship between the two nations.
