Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya expressed today his deep sorrow over the passing of Michael H. Armacost, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, who served from 1989 to 1993. In a heartfelt message of condolence, Minister Iwaya highlighted Ambassador Armacost’s significant contributions to strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance during his tenure.

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ambassador Michael H. Armacost,” said Minister Iwaya. “Ambassador Armacost played a pivotal role in deepening the bond between our two nations, and his legacy continues to shape the strong partnership we enjoy today.
