Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Arfiya Eri attended the “Pre-TICAD Summit on Infectious Diseases and UHC in Africa” and delivered a keynote speech. The event, organized by Malaria No More Japan and Malaria No More US, brought together government officials, international organizations, and experts to discuss solutions for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Africa.
In her speech, Vice-Minister Eri highlighted Japan’s leadership in global health initiatives, including efforts to combat infectious diseases and promote UHC. She emphasized Japan’s ongoing collaboration with the World Bank and WHO to establish the UHC Knowledge Hub, aimed at developing human resources and improving health systems in Africa.
Eri also outlined Japan’s commitment to making the upcoming TICAD 9 summit in Yokohama this August a platform for addressing socio-economic challenges, including health, while amplifying the voices of African and Japanese stakeholders. She reiterated Japan’s dedication to working with international partners to co-create innovative solutions for Africa’s health and development.
