The Embassy of Kuwait in Tokyo hosted a reception to commemorate Kuwait’s Independence Day (25 February) and Liberation Day (26 February), marking the nation’s independence from British protection in 1961 and its liberation from Iraqi occupation in 1991.
The event was attended by prominent Japanese officials, including Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Ikuina Akiko, State Minister for Defense Honda Taro, and Special Adviser to the Prime Minister Iijima Isao. Ambassador Sami Al-Zamanan highlighted Kuwait’s historical milestones and its commitment to the upcoming Osaka Expo, where Kuwait’s pavilion will showcase its vision of empowering lives while honoring tradition.
Japanese representatives praised the enduring friendship between Kuwait and Japan, recalling mutual support during challenging times, such as Japan’s aid during the Gulf War and Kuwait’s generous assistance after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
The reception brought together Japanese parliamentarians, diplomats, and leaders from business, academia, and media, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
