New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and Japan’s National Science and Technology Agency (JST) have announced three collaborative research projects under the New Zealand-Japan Joint Research Programme. The projects, focused on disaster mitigation, response, and recovery, will address earthquake resilience in buildings, volcanic ashfall, and tsunami threats from the Hikurangi subduction zone.
The research will be conducted over three years, with teams from both countries working together. The initiative highlights the ongoing partnership between New Zealand and Japan in advancing science and technology to tackle natural hazards.
