On the 14th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, Swiss Ambassador Andreas Baum made his first visit to Fukushima, attending a memorial ceremony to honor those lost and reflect on the region’s resilience. During his visit, Ambassador Baum met with Fukushima Governor Masao Uchibori and Koriyama Mayor Hiroshi Kohata, and engaged with students from the ‘Support Our Kids’ program.

Since 2011, this NPO has provided international homestay opportunities for youth from disaster-affected areas, fostering global perspectives and hope for the future. The Swiss Embassy has supported these efforts multiple times, reflecting the strong friendship between Switzerland and the Tohoku region. The Ambassador extended warm wishes for health and happiness to all those impacted by the disaster.
