The Trinity Centre for Asian Studies at Trinity College Dublin will host a special academic workshop titled “Lafcadio Hearn’s Japan: From Enchantment to Intercultural Understanding” on 7 March 2025. Supported by the Japan Foundation, the event celebrates the literary and cultural contributions of Lafcadio Hearn, a key figure in bridging Irish and Japanese cultures.
The full-day workshop, held at the Neill Lecture Theatre, will feature keynote talks, expert discussions, and cultural insights into Hearn’s influence on literature, haiku, animism, and Ireland-Japan relations. Scholars, diplomats, and the public are invited to explore Hearn’s enduring legacy and its relevance to global connections.
In addition, a special music performance blending Irish harp and Japanese satsumabiwa will take place at St. Ann’s Church, while the “Kwaidan – Encounters with Lafcadio Hearn” exhibition will be showcased at Farmleigh Gallery from March to August 2025.
