The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo will suspend routine passport, report of birth abroad, and notarial services from April 25 to May 6, 2025, due to an infrastructure improvement project.

U.S. citizens needing passport renewals are encouraged to apply early, with mail-in renewals still available during this period. Emergency passport services will continue for urgent travel needs.

During the temporary closure, U.S. citizens in Tokyo may seek services at consulates in Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, or Naha, though appointments should be scheduled in advance due to expected high demand.
