Nintendo is set to open its first-ever museum on October 2 in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, featuring vintage video games and an interactive Super Mario-themed shooting game. The museum, housed in a renovated factory built in 1969, marks a significant milestone for the gaming giant, which originally started as a manufacturer of playing cards.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary creator of Super Mario Bros., provided a sneak peek of the museum in a video released by Nintendo. He described the museum as a place where visitors can explore Nintendo’s dedication to playful innovation and originality.
The exhibits include some of Nintendo’s earliest consoles, a giant controller operated by two people, and displays featuring ancient Japanese poems. The museum aims to broaden Nintendo’s revenue streams, complementing its other entertainment ventures like Super Nintendo World, the theme park that opened in Osaka in March 2021.
Tickets for the museum, priced at ¥3,300 ($22.60) for adults, went on sale Tuesday, with availability for October and November.
